The generators are to be removed because, of course, they are no longer needed during hurricane season.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to begin removing mega-generators providing backup power at Puerto Rico’s power plants as soon as next week, as the plants are deemed stable, leaving the island vulnerable to power disruptions during hurricane season.
Apparently the government would like the bankrupt Puerto Rican power authority, PREPA, to buy the generators.
One generator is to withdrawn immediately, the other two when PREPA certifies they aren’t needed, but probably a bit after the end of the month in any case.
