I will be brief here.
Much has been made, in some comments here and elsewhere, of the odd sartorial choices of Donald Trump. The long necktie hanging below the waist, the trousers a bit too long, the suit jacket a bit oversized… The contrast between him and Justin Trudeau, who wears modern-looking suits, was particularly strong during their last photo op.
And now we have photos of Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin sitting down together. And Putin is dressed as an echo of Trump—long necktie, loose suit, unbuttoned jacket. The question is, does Trump dress like Putin, or is Putin dressing like Trump? (Either way, Mr. Putin looked pretty bored during Mr. Trump’s opening remarks….)
Admittedly, this is not an important issue, but is Trump copying Putin, or is Putin “dressing down” to flatter Trump?
