Have my stripey friends caught your eye?
If not….well, we have our ways…….
What do tigers have to do with Community? Or with Sara and Ann?
Darned near everything.
You see, Sara and Ann (winglion) have been building Community at Daily Kos for a very long time….years, in fact. They are responsible for the Community Quilts, which bring solace and comfort and joy to so many in our community.
One of their creations hangs at Daily Kos Headquarters. Another represents us at Mother Emmanuel Church in Charleston...a gift from our community to the families and loved ones of those lost in that horrific massacre.
Indeed, I have one, myself, with pooties and chocolates and ice cream
…..and loving, funny, sassy messages from the wonderful people here at Daily Kos.
I usually share that side, but there is also the stunning Tigre side……
My quilt has comforted me in ways that defy expression. It has been my treasure since it arrived.
In these trying times, we all know how important it is to be part of the Daily Kos Community….and not just for political reasons. As I am often quoted as saying,
“Come for the politics; stay for the Community.”
Sara and Ann have had some serious reversals in the last couple of years. Now, just when things were starting to turn their way, Ann’s health took a major hit. She nearly died twice and was close to a third. Modern medicine is wonderful, but it cannot do everything….not without insurance!
And insurance doesn’t cover everything. Ann just had a serious reaction to a prescription medication. It turned out to be the same one that I had taken some years ago, and to which I had an allergic reaction that put me in hospital for three days, thinking I was having mini-strokes. Ah. Side effects. They keep things interesting, don’t they?
As a result, Ann is still not back to 100%, not by a long chalk. She has a list of physical issues that are keeping her from fully enjoying life…..and…..from fully working on the things that have kept the Reed Sisters self-sufficient and self-supporting.
Besides the Community Quilts, the sisters also make Pootie Pads, Woozle Pads, and Pootie Toys. Their Pootie Pad Party is going on now. It is slow going, because Ann simply cannot put in the time and energy that she normally does, and they need our help.
We’re trying to raise $1550 to get their looming bills paid and put some groceries in the pantry. With this weight off their load of stress, they can both take a deep breath and work on getting Ann more fit and able to do the work they love, and that keeps building our Community here.
Please help, even if it’s just a few bucks. So many of us are living so close to disaster, so we know how frightening it can be.
Please use this Pay Pal Link to donate to keep Ann and Sara going until they’re back on their feet.
Not only are we building community by looking out for each other...we’re helping two of the best people here support themselves. Not a bad day’s work, eh?
Many, many thanks to all of you who come to read, rec, tip, comment, and contribute.
