The Detroit News just reported that the Michigan Supreme Court just approved a ballot referendum promoted by Voters Not Politicians for the November election.

Michigan voting districts are one of the most gerrymandered in the US and a petition drive to change this situation was completed this Spring and then approved for the fall ballot. However a lawsuit challenging the referendum was instituted by our attorney General and leading Governor candidate , Bill Schuette, supported by republicans and the Chamber of Commerce. After losing in the Court of Appeals, Schuette took his case to the Supreme Court. Our S court is elected and/ or appointed by our governor and 5 out of 7 are Republicans, two up for re-election. Because of politics there was much concern that the court would agree with Schuette and deny the right for the referendum to be on the ballot. This is huge, huge!! I am very happy!
Ask me if I’m happy. Oh yes, I am. And with fair voting districts we will be able to vote out the stupid ones!
