The Planes of Fame Air Museum is located at the Chino, California, airport. The museum was founded in 1957 by Edward T. Maloney with just 10 airplanes. Today the museum has over 150 aircraft, of which more than 50 are flyable. The Mission of Planes of Fame Air Museum is to preserve aviation history, inspire interest in aviation, educate the public, and honor aviation pioneers and veterans.
The Wright Brothers
By 1899, the Wright Brothers were experimenting with gliders. During 1901-1902, the conducted wind tunnel experiments regarding wing performance. Between 1902 and 1903, they made around 1,200 glides. At this same time, they developed an engine and propeller for their aircraft.
By 1904, the Wright Brothers were contacting prospective customers and in 1906 they were awarded a patent for their control system. They believed that their control system covered the principles of control for all airplanes to come.
The Pond Hanger
The Pond Hanger is named for aviation enthusiast Robert J. Pond. This hanger has many interesting aircraft and displays.
