We received this message about Tapu Dali’s death in Overnight News Digest kosmail. He wrote of having a bad cold back in December but had been commenting fairly regularly until April 14, 2018. Tapu Dali was a member of Daily Kos for almost a decade, having joined on July 31, 2008. Three years ago, on July 6, 2015, he published a diary about his diagnosis for Monday Night Cancer Club. I knew him through Overnight News Digest, science-related stories, and our mutual “interest” in Lyme disease. I hope others will tell their stories of the decade we shared with Tapu Dali at Daily Kos.
On behalf of Daily Kos, I want to thank E for sharing the sad news with us and send her our sympathies.
I am E. It is with the most profound sadness that through this group I would like to inform everyone that Tapu Dali has passed away. His memorial reception celebration has taken place and I just thought people for whom he cared very much on the Kos lists he belonged to and regularly communicated with should know.
He cared deeply about his prostate cancer group, the Science group on climate change and I'm not sure which others but I just thought I would somehow pass it on that his voice has stilled. We were together as we always are as I held his hand in the final hours. It was quiet and he died. It was pneumonia and general weakness that affected his breathing and general function.
He had a great celebration of life with scientists, public service members, artist's and friends -- a remarkable collection of people who honoured his memory. But he valued too his many colleagues and friends on Kos. So I just wanted to pass this on.
My heartfelt thanks to the Kos community for embracing his uncompromising opinions and for a forum in which he could engage without rage.
He is now in the cosmos, but forever in my heart.
