Today is Lil Zen’s 34th birthday. I can hardly believe it. We all know the experience of “How did this happen?’ “Where did the time go?” I am grateful that we are as thick as thieves and enjoy each other’s company. We hope to go on road trip this year but it is iffy due to construction at her place of employment. We’ll see.
Razzle sleeps most of the day, chases the cats occasionally, and general dead butts it while the sun is up. But when it gets dark, she goes on patrol in the garden. She has certain areas that she checks repeatedly all night long, places where she has had interactions with wild life. Since her surgery, I keep her in at night so when I get up and let her out, it is still dark and she springs into action. Here she is this very morning, watching an intersection between three houses where possums come in. She didn’t find any this morning.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

This dragonfly came to visit a few days ago with her mate. They did their mating flight and she came down to the pond and brushed her bottom against the submerged plants to lay her eggs. In a few years (Yes, years), the nymphs (they look like crickets) that make it that long will climb out of the water, up one of the papyrus stems, harden and molt and come out as a dragonfly. I got to see that last year. it looked like this.
These are blooming in my garden today. The plumeria is pink and the water lily is too. The lily blooms for 3 or 4 nights and is deeper pink each morning. This is day 3 for it I think. They are so pretty.
As a last note, I leave this question. Did you learn to tie dry cleaning bags into knots to keep children from smothering in them when you were young? My mother stressed this and I do it to this day with bags that can get around faces or necks or the like. I also cut 6 pack rings apart so they can’t either. I don’t see it much, and wondered if the practice was or is wide spread.
Have a good day all. Comment below.
