Hello, writers. I’m writing to you in haste this evening, having just gotten back from my mother’s house. It took me about five hours to drive home, and that gave me some time to think about how I get myself to write.
We’ve talked about self-motivation before on here. What do you do to make yourself write?
I have in the past resorted to all sorts of stuff, including lunch at an Indian buffet every time I completed 10k words (I eventually had to scrap this when I became a faster drafter) to paying myself minimum wage, and putting the money into a travel fund.
But lately I haven’t bothered with any of that stuff. And in the car today I realized why. When my writing time is limited, I don’t need a motivator. The writing itself is the reward.
How about you? What do you use to motivate yourself?
Since the above doesn’t lend itself to a Tonight’s Challenge, write a description of anything, from the point of view of a squirrel.
Write On! will be a regular weekly diary (Thursdays 8 pm Eastern Time, 5 pm Pacific) until it isn't.
