There are days I wish I as smart as Stephen Colbert, many many days. Case in point, the coinage of the term “Truthiness”. Long before our current president took the political stage, Colbert was waging a satirical campaign against Fox News and its sketchy relationship with the truth. One can only imagine what the team will come up with for tomorrow night’s monologue in the wake of Rudy Giuliani’s “truth isn’t truth” statement but they might just have to retire the term truthiness. I mean, when life imitates art this well, you kind of just have to give up and try something new.
But first, a word from our sponsors ...

Giuliani’s Law
“When the facts are on your side, pound the facts. When the law is on your side, pound the law. When neither is on you side, pound the table.” — trial lawyer’s adage
But Rudy has taken this to a whole new level so I propose “Giuliani’s Law” which states that when your client has no relationship with the truth you deny its very existence.
This seems like a good tactic to take when you are representing Mr Trump and looking at the very real possibility of his having to speak under oath. (One wonders what this particular client’s understanding of the concept of an oath is as well, but I digress.) Giuliani has to be softening the ground for Mueller’s interview here.
Whatever you may think of Giuliani, and I have more than my share of thoughts on the subject, he seems to be a pretty good advocate for his clients. There are days when I think that the term wartime consigliere was created just for this guy. This is why he is the perfect representation for the man waging a war on truth.
gulf of truth resolution
logomachy
Pronunciation: lê-gah-mê-kee
Part of Speech: Noun
Meaning: 1. War over words, controversy about which word is the correct one. 2.War of words.
Following the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution which gave Lyndon Johnson the power to escalate military actions in Vietnam without Congressional approval the conflict became known as “Johnson’s War”. Following this, I propose calling Giuliani’s performance the Gulf of Truth Resolution. The premise being twofold, that there is a gulf between Trump and the truth and that Giuliani is attempting to give him full reign to escalate the conflict.
(Maybe not the best joke ever, but I’m trying.)
The meme heard round the world
“By the rude bridge that arched the flood/Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled/Here once the embattled farmers stood/And fired the shot heard round the world.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson “Concord Hymn”
Chuck Todd tipped this one off himself. Of course this will be a meme, it already is. Giuliani’s quote could very well be the proverbial first shot in an all out truth war. And it would have to be an all out war for this president to survive. There is no doubt that the hard core Trumpists would have to revolutionize, forgive the term, our system to keep him in power. Let’s do some work to make sure that doesn’t happen.
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.

In
one of the diaries (by

this comment from
FiredUpInCA. It turns a familiar phrase on its head and perfectly describes the Twitler regime's disdain for truth.
