The unindicted co-conspirator in the White House is actively spitting on the memory of Sen. John McCain right now. He's not just refusing to allow his team to issue a statement honoring the man, but not allowing the federal government to show its respect by lowering flags. He's going out of his way to be a petty asshole about this.
And while Senate Democrats are offering ideas for honoring the man, it's back to normal for the Republican Senate under Mitch McConnell, enacting Trump's agenda.
There's absolutely nothing that Trump can do that will turn Republicans against him. They already know in their hearts that he colluded with a foreign adversary to gain office. They already know for a fact he's shared sensitive, highly classified information with Putin. That's not enough to turn them.
But you'd think that watching this treatment of one of their own—their party's standard bearer in 2008—might just open their eyes, might just finally be enough. It isn't. Trump could piss on McCain's grave literally instead of metaphorically, and McConnell and team will blithely carry on as if all of this is normal, doing Trump's bidding.
