Whatever your personal opinion of John McCain, there can be no doubt he loved this country. He served this country bravely and spent 5 ½ years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. He asked that former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama deliver his eulogy. He was by no means a perfect person, but he did represent a certain breed of Republican, one that was willing to occasionally compromise, a type of Republican that now borders on extinction. To the shock and dismay of people inside and outside the White House, Donald Trump apparently ordered the flags raised to fly at full staff, one final act of pettiness and disrespect to John McCain.
Reporters and citizens around Washington, D.C. reported on social media that the flag on the White House was at full staff this morning while flags at the Washington Monument, the U.S. Capitol building, and various Cabinet buildings remained at half-staff.
But that wasn’t for long. Shortly after this photo was shared on Twitter, the flags at the Washington Monument had also been raised. Not all agencies got the memo on raising the flags, as someone at the Energy Department kept it lowered, for now. But it seems clear that Donald Trump ordered them to fly at full-staff today.

Reporters shouted at Donald Trump, wanting his comments on the passing of John McCain and the Deplorable-in-Chief sat with his arms crossed, mouthing “thank you” — a nod to his staff to intervene and get the press out of the room. Sarah Huckabee Sanders and others press aides leapt in front of the cameras to block the shot and get reporters out of the room.
Even staffers inside the White House are reportedly angry and embarrassed about Trump’s decision to issue a tweet instead of an official statement, and to order the flags back to full staff.
The pettiness and vindictiveness of this small, small man know no bounds. This is a man whose entire statement about John McCain’s passing fit inside a tweet, along with a photo of himself, not John McCain. He also spent the day on the golf course, again, where the bone spurs that earned him five deferments during the Vietnam War never seem to affect his game.
It’s proof yet again that this deplorable, despicable man is grossly unfit for duty.
