A funny thing happened on the way to November….Matt Bevin attacked Kentucky teachers with a toxic and illegal sewer bill. Angry teachers are nothing to sneeze at, they rebelled and with allies like Rocky Adkins (D - minority floor leader) we got it pushed down. The Republican assault on education is relentless and the road to election runs through Fancy Farms Annual BBQ and political rally.
An appearance at fancy farms is a necessity of running for office in Kentucky whether you like it or not. This year Bevin chose to not attend due to pressing cowardice and low polling numbers. I really hope he feels worse soon and his condition proves unrecoverable. While the churches fundraiser is the end all be all of the political kickoff, it is not a stand alone event. Both sides throw fundraisers and rallies for their own parties and candidates. It gives people a good chance to meet with the candidates and organize and generally raise the troops morale. It was a great boost to be surrounded by democrats and bolstered for the long road ahead. Since the Pre-events get divided by political party until the speeches at the church grounds itself it’s almost possible to put the gop from your nightmares for a day or two. While never being allowed to forget, the fight lays before us and the consequences are very real and very dangerous.

McConnell boasted of depriving Obama of his Supreme Court choice (to which I yelled “because you are a Liar and a Thief”, at fancy farms you are encouraged to boo or cheer, not swear and no bullhorns or noisemakers.) and lovingly rolled in his own manure purring about placing a record number of politically motivated hack Republican judges in powerful positions to pave the road for republicans to steal everything American stands for and sell it to the rich. He spoke of the wonders done by the department headed by his wife, how wonderful it was to give such a beautiful tax cut to the rich and how we should be so happy he has such power in his position. While I didn’t think it possible to loathe him any more I think he managed to make me hate him even more. The creature is loathsome and vile with nothing redeeming whatsoever. He also left after his remarks because he also knows someone moved the rock he lived under and we could see him
Rand Paul couldn’t be bothered to join us, he was busy courting the Russian vote or as Allison Grimes said, in Russian looking for a new campaign manager. Matt Bevin was also a no show I guess he’s running for re-election on chicken feet.

Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles (R), the emcee. Was reveling in his role as he spewed unfunny “jokes” and claimed that only the proper private education and intelligence could produce republicans (that’s called brainwashing and propoganda actually) and implied that democrats were ignorant, lazy and mostly had arrest records...www.courier-journal.com/… funny how we keep having agricultural commissioners arrested and doing time isn’t it Mr. Quarles? At least he thought he was funny which I guess was all he felt was important.
So many of the Republican candidates spoke of democrats stupidly demanding open boarders and of ending the rule of law and being socialist scum. They all worshipped at the alter of forced birth (because a minor player in the Kentucky house can effect the banning of birth control, sex education, and the right to choose at a national level right?). So it was all Save the babies! We cut your taxes and ended regulations! If you won’t take the jobs we will force you to work or starve you dumb bastards! School choice! (Who closed their booth behind the trump chicken and left early).
running for district 20 senate seat David Suetholtz, a name to remember and support. I was very impressed with this young man and his positions.
This is the Democratic candidate for Kentucky house district 2

Also met and was incredibly impressed by Cherylynn she and her very determined supporters have moved mountains and will continue to do so as she runs like our lives depend on it in Kentucky’s 88th district. They have knocked on every door in their district and are not shy about doing it again.

we really need to turn out for democrats locally y’all. It’s not just voting in presidential election years, it’s voting in EVERY ELECTION! We have a lot of work to do and not much time to get it done. We need to support and protect not just public education, but healthcare, voting rights, and to social safety net which republicans want to carve up and serve to the rich. Listening to candidates from both sides showed how much was at stake...VOTE! Show up! Support your candidates! We need everyone to take the nation back. You are important and without you...trump….so vote!
I’m exhausted and recovering so I will be a bit behind in checking in on this diary. Also catching up on housework, dog care, lawn work and cooking. The daily business of life continues and we all get behind sometimes.
I can’t stress this enough. If you don’t vote, you leave it to the klan, the fundamentalist and religious extremist and the outright natzis to pick the government. This is how you get McConnell, and no one wants a McConnell infestation. We’ve had one for 30 years and the damages it’s done are nightmarish and impossible to repair while the infestation continues. So get out there, register and turn out the vote because only you can prevent republicans.
