For the first time ever, Daily Kos staffers filmed intimate one-on-one conversations with some of the most dynamic progressive leaders in attendance at Netroots Nation 2018, held in balmy New Orleans. Everyone from elected officials—like Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris—to activists—like the Southern Poverty Law Center’s David Neiwert—stopped by our makeshift studio behind the Netroots main stage.
Our very first conversation was with the inimitable Cory Booker, former mayor of Newark and current New Jersey senator, who sat down and “filibustered” questions with our very own New Jersey native Wagatwe Wanjuki, just minutes after his oh-so-powerful Saturday keynote.
Tackling everything from sexual assault to the prison industrial complex, the importance of everything we share on social media to the stolen dreams of today’s youngest adults, the dangerous disengagement of the United States from the global stage, and the endless attacks on the American worker, Sen. Booker gave us much more of his valuable time than we were promised—and offered some great tips on how Democrats can connect with young voters of color … even if they’ve never faced a New Jersey winter.
Take twenty minutes to watch and listen to the video below … you just might learn a thing from the senator from New Jersey. We sure did.
Stay tuned for our other conversations, with activists like healthcare hero Laura Packard and immigration fighter Juan Escalante, and NY gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon!
