On Sunday, Bob Woodward, author of
Fear (to be released tomorrow), told
CBS Sunday Morning, "You look at the operation of this White House and you have to say, 'Let's hope to God we don't have a crisis.'”
How will this dumpster fire of an administration react? Who knows. The guy in charge has the attention span of a weasel on a double espresso, and FEMA is, thanks to this administration, woefully understaffed. It also doesn't help that all the president's men will be preoccupied with trying to discredit, deflect, and deny one of the authors behind the original All the President's Men.
Virginia and both Carolinas have already issued mandatory evacuations for thousands of people, ahead of the storm. That's what they should be doing, but where are they evacuating to? Perhaps, thanks to this administration, they can go to "summer camp" with some detainees. I honestly have no idea how the government plans to react to thousands of Americans fleeing their homes with no timetable on a return.
We can all hope for a little luck, and maybe the storm will die down or change course. We can hope that these people have relatives not in the storm's path that will support them. That's wishful thinking, though, and I'm afraid this is the exact sort of crisis that may be the last straw on the elephant's back, as it were.
I do not wish ill will and I hope everyone has made appropriate plans and has accommodations all worked out. I just don't see that happening though. This is, perhaps literally, the exact thing that Woodward was saying he hoped wouldn't happen with this current group of grifters, liars, and flat out bad people in power. They can't tie their own shoes without a committee meeting. Imagine them trying to coordinate an emergency effort to save people that aren't even on an island.
