The Democrats need to flip 23 seats to take back the House of Representatives, and the map looks pretty favorable right now, with dozens and dozens of districts either leaning blue, a toss-up, or within striking distance. But some seats would represent bigger victories than others, and tossing aside Trump stooge Devin Nunes would be an absolutely monumental victory.
Normally, CA-22 is very red. But this year, the political climate has changed across the country, and thanks to Nunes’ absolutely pathetic shilling for Trump and Putin, as well as his deep disconnect with his Central California district, he’s put himself in a real danger zone. Nipping at his heels is the aggressive, progressive prosecutor Andrew Janz, an energetic candidate who has been raising big money online and canvassing the central California district since this time last year. He’s pulled to within five points of Nunes in polls, and with some help, could depose the dopey Republican — but the DCCC, he says, is reneging on its promise to provide him with that help.
via Politico:
The 34-year-old prosecutor contends that the Democratic Party’s House campaign arm has cut him out of promised fundraising money and frozen him out in his bid to unseat Nunes, a top ally of President Donald Trump who has worked tirelessly to delegitimize the probe into Russian inteference in the 2016 presidential election.
In an interview with POLITICO, Janz and his campaign manager, Heather Greven, said the DCCC misled Janz about the support he could expect from the DCCC in the Central Valley-based district. And Janz said he has asked DCCC staff and members of Congress for a five-minute call with DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján, but “he won’t return my calls.”
“I can’t even get him on the phone, and I’m raising more money than any one of their targeted races here in California,” Janz said.
Janz raked in more than $1 million in July alone through ActBlue, the online Democratic fundraising platform. That’s more than two of the party’s biggest online fundraisers — Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) — collected on the platform during the same month.
Janz has been vocal about the snub today, offering the sort of rhetoric that, ironically, makes him an even stronger candidate, more worthy of support:
We’ve seen time and again the DCCC play it overly cautious, going in for boring milquetoast moderate candidates over bold progressives with real grassroots support. And while there are plenty of races for them to furnish with resources, there are few that are as dynamic as this one. Nunes is becoming a pariah in his district, Janz is incredibly energetic, and having the guy who singlehandedly destroyed the House’s Russia investigation go down would send shockwaves around the country. Plus, forcing the RNC to spend money on that race would take money away from other races.
So, once again, it’s up to us, the grassroots, to help a candidate we support when the Democratic Party establishment will not. Anything you can give to Janz will be a crucial help down the stretch, since the DCCC is clearly not going to help him much!

Also: I created this fundraising page for the Democrats running in pure toss-up races this November. Right now, there are 28 of them.
