To start off on a lighter note, Grassley is the Senator who tweeted this epic self-own four years ago:
Yesterday, Chuck Grassley said to a reporter: “I’d hate to have someone ask me what I did 35 years ago”.
Well, the Internet (taking on the avatar of Parker Molloy), answered.
In 1983, Senator Chuck Grassley was busy voting against making MLK Day a national holiday.
Since then, he’s been busy voting down bills that prevent violence against women.
It’s notable that the six highest ranking Republicans on the Senate Judiciary committee voted against re-authorizing VAWA.
And isn’t it interesting that Chuck Grassley can only empathize with the accused? He simply cannot put himself in the position of the victim.
Is it any wonder that Dr. Blasey and her lawyers do not think this crew can run an impartial hearing? This is largely the same group of men who badly botched the Anita Hill hearings and have spent their time since then, actively defending Clarence Thomas.
As Dr. Hill pointed out, Senate Judiciary has made no effort to learn from that episode. It still does not have an agreed upon protocol to deal with allegations of sexual misconduct by a nominee.
In the absence of a clear protocol, Dr. Blasey has asked for an FBO investigation before she testifies. In their rush to subvert the truth, this crew of Republican hacks has forgotten that this is exactly what happened during the Anita Hill hearings.
We should completely ignore their varied defenses of private-school boy Brett Kavanaugh, after all, this crowd has defended other harassers and abusers before. Starting with Clarence Thomas and Donald Trump.
The absolute worst thing is the terrible message their excuses for Kavanaugh’s alleged behavior are sending to impressionable minds. They serve to make women fearful and embolden the worst of men.
