It’s about time that Scott Walker gets a taste of his own scorched earth campaign tactics. Liberal groups are finally going on the attack just as Walker has repeatedly used his own RW dark money groups to beat up his opponents. The big difference is that the pro-Walker dark money ads lie and lie and lie some more about his opponents.
These ads tell the truth. And, for Scott Walker, the truth hurts.
The last one was put out by Tony Evers own campaign. That one must bite Walker as one of his appointees tells the truth about Walkers well known repayment to his mega donors.
There’s another ad that shows his failure to fix our roads, his devastating education cuts, and his disregard for health care (he not only refused Medicaid expansion, but raised the requirements for Medicaid in Wisconsin which kicked 80,000 people from their coverage), but I have been unable to locate that ad on the net (it’s airing a lot in my area). It’s the best ad of all. If anyone can find it, please post in the comments or send me the link.
OK — I finally found it:
“Under Governor Walker’s watch for the past eight years, Wisconsin’s roads, schools, and health care have fallen apart,” said A Stronger Wisconsin Spokesman Tom Russell. “That’s why Wisconsinites need to tell Governor Walker that eight years of his putting politics before people is enough.”
Ouch!
This may end up being the most expensive race for Governor ever.
More than $7 million in advertising has flooded into the Wisconsin governor’s race in the week since Democrats chose their candidate to try to unseat Republican Gov. Scott Walker in November.
The spending shows the race is living up to expectations that it will be one of the most expensive and hardest fought in the country, as Democrats try to knock off one of their top targets in an Upper Midwestern state that was integral to President Donald Trump’s victory in 2016.
Walker has been in a panic about a Blue Wave ever since Democrats unseated Republicans in what were formerly safe red districts. His alarm was so high that he tried to cancel a special election to replace 2 legislators who he appointed. The courts said no and elections were held. Dems took 1 of those 2 previously “safe” Republican seats, too.
And then there’s this:
Democrats outnumbered Republican voters by nearly 100,000 in last week’s primary, where state schools chief Tony Evers emerged from a field of eight candidates to take on Walker.
There was a highly contested primary to nominate the Republican who will challenge Tammy Baldwins’ US Senate seat. Even that wasn’t enough to motivate GOP voters to get to the polls.
Don’t worry about Walker. His dark money army is already outspending Tony Evers forces by more than 2:1 and now the Koch Brothers have announced they’re going to step in with megabucks to keep their toady in office.
Added Bonus:
It turns out that Walker and the GOP are in deep trouble with independent voters in Wisconsin.
It doesn’t really matter which poll or which race or which big-name politician you look at, the pattern is the same: independents — the swingiest part of the electorate — are giving the GOP fits right now in Wisconsin.
"The great arbiters in the midterm election will be independent voters,’ said David Paleologos, who conducted a recent Suffolk University poll in Wisconsin for the Journal Sentinel. “Currently, Republicans need to change their minds, while Democrats just need to motivate them to vote."
It isn’t just a new poll, but FOUR polls taken over the summer along with the current one. Small wonder that dark money groups are on the attack against Walkers Democratic opponent, Tony Evers and against our current US Senator, Tammy Baldwin. They’re hoping that the same lying attack ads will change the minds of voters.
What’s new this time is that progressive groups are going on the attack with truthful ads about Scott Walker and Leah Vukmir. It’s frigging about time, too.
Side Note:
People have been asking me about who I supported in the primary. Well, I cast my vote for Tony Evers despite other very appealing candidates. Tony has won state-wide as Superintendent of Public Instruction even in Republican Red Tide elections. He has statewide name recognition and if we want Walker gone, we need someone like that.
Democrats put up Tom Barrett twice and in the recall election, Walker manipulated the election to be many months after the recall petitions had been gathered and well over a year after Walkers initial devastation to Wisconsin. Voters forgot just how truly rotten he really was. And the recall was scheduled when university students were on summer break, people were on vacation and tens of millions of pro-Walker ads were aired that lied about what he had done.
Then, in 2014, the Democratic Party selected an unknown multi-millionaire who had to fight for any name recognition in the state and try to overcome more tens of millions in dark money ads that lied about her. Well, she lost, too.
Next time, after a Tony Evers Governorship, I’ll support a candidate that I really, really like (not that I don’t like Tony Evers). But, for now, Evers got my vote along with Mandela Barnes for Lt. Governor (he won in that primary).
As for the choice of Leah Vukmir to run against Tammy Baldwin for US Senate, I couldn’t be more delighted. She’s my current State Senator and about a dumb as a rock (apologies to rocks). Her town halls, when facing re-election, were held with US House Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner because she was so incredibly ham-fisted about any questions that couldn’t be answered without memorized talking points. And she became flummoxed when asked pointed questions. I can’t wait to see her in a debate with Tammy Baldwin.
