Yesterday, my hubby and I went over to Lawrence. We went to some garage and estate sales. Our major reason was to go to the Pilot Club’s semi-annual antique show and sale. Got a few small bunnies.
After we were done, we stopped by the Lawrence Humane Society to see and pet the bunnies. There were two. A female, who was supposed to be around five years old and a male who was around one year old. Frosty was fixed about 11 days old and had been brought in to the shelter, at the end of August. Frosty must be part lop because he has one ear up and one ear down (lopped).
I asked to hold him. The girl didn't know how to calm him down to get him out of the cage. i asked if they had a towel I could use. She said they had a pillow case. I said that'll work. Throw it over his head and then pick him up. If he can't see, it calms them down and you can pick them up without them lunging and possibly hurting themselves or you. I ended up doing it myself because she didn't move quick enough and he uncovered his head. I petted him and he started with the nipping (frost bites). I still decided to adopt him. His age helped since bunnies don't tend to live quite as long as a cat and most dogs, about 10 years if they're house rabbits.
We were going to have to get a cardboard carrier but since he was good with the teeth and we had a little ways to drive home, about 30 miles, she provided a regular carrier. I'll clean it, return it, alonng with donating another carrier or two, when I have my next dental appointment.
Last night, I sat down beside him and got frost bitten again and again. Same thing this morning. Now he's exploring the outdoors and I was pulling the dead leaves off some day lilies and he'd approach me. I could pet him m on his head or back. He's starting to follow me around already but he likes to dart around and if I'm not looking down, he could dart underneath one foot.
He's already had me laughing good. He is very lively. You just have to watch out for a Frosty streak around here.
He's supposed to have a well bunny check up within 10 days. Hope he doesn't give the vet frost bite.
Looks like my winter forecast is going to be a little Frosty.
