Former President Barack Obama received an ethics in government award from the University of Illinois and he delivered a barnburner of a speech that absolutely pummeled Republicans and Donald Trump for their scurrilous behavior and eroding the foundations of our democracy. This is by far one of the most important speeches Obama has ever given and you’re going to be wishing you could pull the lever for him in the voting booth again one day. We can’t do that, but we can do what President Obama tells us we must do in November: take back our government at the ballot box and elect Democrats.
Whatever else you do today, WATCH THIS SPEECH. Highlights and the speech in full can be seen below, but here’s a taste of what Obama delivered—he asked the crowd how hard is it to stand up to Nazi sympathizers? To say that Nazis are bad?!
He opened the speech by telling the crowd "You need to vote because our democracy depends on it” and then he turned his attention to Republicans and he held no punches about Donald Trump. In these two short clips he hits hard at Trump and rightly reminded the crowd that Donald Trump inherited this economy.
He went hard at the Republican party, asking what just what in the hell has happened to them?
He again reminded the crowd that it is up to us to ‘restore some semblance of sanity to our politics.’
He defended the free press and noted that he didn’t like everything Fox News said about him but he never thought about threatening to shut them down or calling them the enemy of the people. And he made his strongest points in two clips below.
You can see the full speech below. It is so worth your time today. Share widely and get to work electing democrats.
