Christopher Street Day is Germany’s pride day, and today a march was held during the parade in the town of Weimar to honor gay victims held at the camp.
About 50 people marched through the grounds of the Buchenwald Memorial holding a rainbow flag and placed flowers at a marker for 650 camp prisoners who were assigned uniforms with pink triangles between 1937 and 1945.
Although little is known of the outcome of those that were placed into the camp for suspicion of being gay, many of which lost their lives but the total numbers are unknown.
As someone who would have worn the yellow triangle overlaid with the pink triangle my heart goes out to thank those that made their way to the camp and remembered those who lost their lives for being who they were.
