The banner that shows tRump approval has gone up from -14 on Christmas to -9 now while 538 and RCP both show almost the exact opposite with tRump going from about -10 to -15 now. The one that covers tRump’s “approval” rating vs Pelosi’s “favorable” rating. In other words tRump’s performance vs Pelosi’s likability. WTF?
These things have bothered me for a while but today for the first time I clicked on their link to check out how they come up with their “data”. Turns out that civiqs is an online polling company that polls people who choose to sign up. These types of polls have accuracy issues as 538 has stated.
If Daily Kos is going to have a polling data banner at the top of the page couldn’t we at least be provided accurate data from reputable sources? Preferably multiple data compilers like 538 and RCP.
If Civiqs is a paid add could we at least have it stated clearly “ADVERTISEMENT — civiqs is an online polling company that only polls people that sign up to be polled”.

Learned alot from the comments and did some looking around elsewhere for explanations why the civiqs data & trends don’t often line up with the majority of polling data and the aggregate data from 538. The Aspen Institute points out Online Polls Are Not Created Equal and says the following about civiqs —
Online polls aren’t new — nor are they all created equal. The heavyweights in online panel surveys typically use probability sampling and provide internet access to those who don’t have it in order to avoid sampling bias. The Methodological Geek in us wasn’t too excited to see that the Civiqs panel appears to rely on respondents who already have internet access. Its respondent recruitment pitchalso caught our eye: “Civiqs makes your views heard. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it makes a difference.” A Democracy Lite pitch? With revelations about Facebook and Cambridge Analytica currently swirling in the news, you’ll forgive us if we’re extra wary of claims about how political data on We the People are collected and used.
