One of the two authors of the Buzzfeed article claiming that T***p ordered Michael Cohen to commit perjury to Congress is Jason Leopold, a former writer for Truthout.org. In 2006, Leopold wrote a bombshell article claiming that Karl Rove had been indicted by a Special Prosecutor. The reaction to that article here was furious, especially as time passed and Karl Rove was not perp walked for his mug shot. Many people here were not around at the time of the Truthout.org fiasco, so I am posting some history as background for the Buzzfeed fiasco.
A great summary of the Truthout.org events was posted here:
www.dailykos.com/…
Spoiler: Karl Rove was never indicted.
What is striking is that Truthout.org, which published the Karl Rove story, issued statements backing Leopold eerily similar to those of Buzzfeed:
For the past few days, we have endured non-stop attacks on our credibility, and we have fought hard to defend our reputation. In addition, we have worked around the clock to provide additional information to our readership. People want to know more about this, and our job is to keep them informed. We take that responsibility seriously.
More from Truthout.org publisher Marc Ash:
Ash now writes that he and investigative reporter Jason Leopold have three independent sources confirming that Rove’s attorneys “were handed an indictment either late in the night of May 12 or early in the morning of May 13.” The sources are knowledgeable, says Ash.
Truthout.org tripled down on the bogus Rove story before admitting it was false.
Keep this in mind as the current Buzzfeed story is defended by its editor.
