There's trouble in Trumpland today, as his intelligence community is disputing many of his assertions about national security and, particularly the wall.
Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee Monday, declaring that China and Russia have teamed up to undermine the U.S. and are working toward the "shared goal of 'taking advantage of rising doubts in some places about the liberal democratic model.'" He added that North Korea was "unlikely to completely give up its nuclear weapons and production capabilities," which its leaders consider "critical to the regime's survival." So much for Trump's fantastic relationship with Kim Jong Un.
All this was enough for Trump to attack his intelligence team with the usual onslaught of tweets. But what really got his goat had to have been this part of the hearing: "None of the officials said there is a security crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border, where Trump has considered declaring a national emergency so that he can build a wall."
No wonder. Sure, sure, they told the world he's all wrong on the Middle East and China and Russia and North Korea. But undermining his border crisis fantasies? That kind of aggression cannot stand.
