Here’s an interesting take on the relationship of V. Putin to the *Resident, by Masha Gessen of the New Yorker. Per Ms. Gessen, it’s not so much that we’re being subverted by “Russia” but becoming a vassal of the Russian Mob State.

Quoting from the article:
“Reader, I think I’ve finally figured it out. I don’t mean that I’ve figured out whether Russians influenced the outcome of the American election—I doubt even the Robert Mueller investigation will be able to answer that question. I mean that I’ve figured out how to think about what we know and not go crazy. The answer lies in the concept of the Mafia state. (And, no, I’m not invoking the Mob because Stone encouraged an associate to behave like a character from “The Godfather Part II,” as detailed in his indictment.)”
The article is not long, and is worth the read.
Also, for minutely detailed examinations of Putin and the Russian incursion into our politics, watch the The Putin Files: Frontline from fall of 2017, an exhaustive series of interviews with people who should know what they’re talking about: Julia Ioffe, Masha Gessen, Michael McFaul, John Brennan, James Clapper and MANY others. They talk extensively about the incompetence/lack of technical savvy of the Russian government, among other things. It’s interesting and informed perspective on what happened and what we are facing.
