The toddler-in-chief threw a tantrum Friday morning, confirming that he’ll go full-on dictator to get his imaginary wall built. What a master negotiator he is … not.
For once, Individual-1 didn’t deny saying something that everyone knows he said.
Pointing out the amateur antics of this “president” would normally be hilarious—if there weren’t hundreds of thousands of federal workers being directly impacted by his panicky, pouty shutdown.
Quite simply, the human collateral damage cannot be ignored.
And it’s not just federal employees (and contractors) who are paying the price. Americans trying to close on home and business loans from the government are facing delays. The impact on the economy during the Trump shutdown is very real, and the longer this goes on, the harder it will be on the American people.
Of course, Trump doesn’t give a damn about the lives of ordinary Americans—and his enablers in the Republican Party think the same way.
(P)otential homebuyers could run into delays getting mortgages to close on purchases especially if they rely on Federal Housing Administration (FHA) or United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) loans, according to Moody’s Analytics’ chief economist Mark Zandi.
“The housing market is already struggling, as home sales have flatlined over the past year,” Zandi said in an email. “The shutdown will cause sales to fall and house prices to weaken if it goes on for more than a couple more weeks.”
But there is hope, with newly-elected Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer leading the negotiations. They are far better negotiators than Trump could ever dream of being, and it goes without saying that they both know this guy isn’t very smart. Thus far, they have been doing a great job—Schumer even knew the orange blunder would proudly confirm his petty “months and years” to the media, because he thinks it makes him look good.
Trump jubilantly promising to extend his shutdown for years is a massive blunder, even for a toddler. He initially accepted all responsibility for his shutdown, before blaming Democrats, but today, he circled back to owning this crisis he created, and even put an exclamation point on it!
Republicans are screwed with Trump and Mitch McConnell leading the way. They totally deserve the disaster they’ve enabled … but the American people do not.
