Trump doesn’t just lie. He makes up entire conversations that never happened. And he does it all the time.
The latest?
He claimed today during his press conference/harrowing public mental breakdown that “some” former presidents have told him they should have done what he’s currently doing — i.e., shutting down the government over $5 billion in steel-slat funding:
“This is national security we’re talking about. We’re not talking about games. We’re talking about national security. This should have been done by all of the presidents that preceded me, and they all know it. Some of them have told me that we should have done it. So we’re not playing games, we have to do it.”
This is virtually impossible.
We currently have four living ex-presidents: Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. I can’t see those words coming out of any of their mouths, much less “some” of them. Not in a million years. But Trump, in using the word “some,” is saying that at least two of them have told him they should have taken the country on this same worthless carny ride.
Oh, it’s possible George H.W. Bush told him before he died, but it doesn’t sound like he talked to DJT much.
So who?
Barack Obama? Not a chance.
Bill Clinton? Think Trump talks to him in between “Crooked Hillary” tweets? Anyway, Clinton’s spokesperson says the two haven’t spoken since the inauguration:
George W. Bush? Don’t see it.
That leaves Jimmy Carter … and, really? Carter? No.
In fact, here’s how Inquistr summarized our former presidents’ respective stances on the wall:
- We already know that Clinton did not speak to Trump, per his spokesman’s comments.
- It’s unlikely that former President Barack Obama spoke with Trump in favor of building the border wall, since he’s spoken extensively against the idea, per reporting from NBC News.
- Former President Jimmy Carter has suggested that a border wall could be part of a broader negotiation on immigration that helps individuals like Dreamers, who are seeking ways to stay in the U.S. to become permanent citizens. But Carter has also gone on record as having said that there are better ways to deal with immigrants entering the country than building a wall, according to reports from Voice Of America.
- Former President George W. Bush might have the same ideological preference about a border wall, but likely hasn’t spoken to Trump about it — the Bush family is not exactly on speaking terms with the current president, Politico pointed out.
So this is just made up. Totally. Out of whole cloth. And it’s so easily disproven, you have to wonder what kind of brain worm has burrowed into the pr*sident’s buttocks this time.
But that’s where we are in the Year of Our Trump 2019.
Our president is nuts, and virtually everyone knows it.
Sigh
