TSA agents are calling in sick en masse.
Air traffic controllers are Working without pay and warning of long-term damage to the safety of our flights.
Our airports have many times the number of terror watchlisted people attempting entry, and they are totally overwhelmed right now by the government shutdown.
Donald Trump has created a glaringly obvious hole in our defenses against foreign terrorism with his own, tiny, ham fisted hands, by turning our difficult passenger screening procedures into a chaotic, understaffed mess. He has compounded it by adding another dangerous and distracting administrative headache by leaving air traffic control unpaid and in the lurch, and forcing an inevitable cutback in maintenance and inspection oversight.
It’s another instance of him abusing the hard-working people who actually understand what’s at stake and who will put their own well-being aside to ensure safe travels for their passengers.
But it is also a critical slip of his administration’s due diligence and duty to safeguard us in the very places that have been exploited to do the most grievous harm to us; by the very terrorists he is employing to build his false narrative and using to fake-justify his monument to institutionalized racism across our southern border.
This is an exemplar of his self-serving hypocrisy that deserves intense scrutiny. It is unconscionable to let him vamp endlessly about his redundant wall while crucial security tasks that actually accomplish his stated purpose are getting short shrift because of the tactics he has chosen. He is creating very real and much worse security risks right now, and that’s a much better argument to make against Trump’s shutdown than any of his chosen rhetorical nonsense.
