Sen. Susan Collins is still trying to sell Mainers on her old, musty "moderate" cloak, even as the likes of Moscow Mitch McConnell and former Maine Gov. Paul "Trump before Trump was popular" LePage rally around her. The mantle is going to get even harder for her to claim when the people raising boatloads of money for her keep calling her the "hero of the Kavanaugh confirmation."
The Intercept and Documented got their hands on an invitation to a high-dollar fundraiser for her in California on Wednesday. It's being held by, get this for irony, the Lincoln Women's Leadership Committee. Women leading in selling other women out, apparently. For $500, attendees can meet Collins at a prelunch private reception. That's after they've paid at least $1,000 for a seat during lunch. But Orange County Republican women can generally cough up that kind of money.
For that they're not only going to be able to chat with the hero of the Kavanaugh confirmation, but they can also schmooze with former Rep. Mimi Walters, a loser in the 2018 blue tsunami. She was ousted by rising Democratic star Rep. Katie Porter, who seemed to capture the hearts and minds of Orange County voters in a new way.
Maybe the hero of the Kavanaugh confirmation isn't going to be such a big draw in Southern California after all.
How sweet would it be to end McConnell's majority and Collins' career? Please give $1 to help Democrats in each of these crucial Senate races, but especially the one in Maine!
