There’s been another Democratic Presidential Candidate Debate tonight. We’re all looking for many things from the candidates, either to help us make up our minds, to validate our choice, or to find points we can share with others hoping to change their minds. It will be lots of talk… measured down to the minute to see who got how much time.
One of my core beliefs is that people can talk their talk — state their positions and opinions and beliefs — but what really matters is how they walk their walk. More to the point, do they walk their talk? Or as Meteor Blades’ tagline reads: Don't tell me what you believe, show me what you do and I will tell you what you believe.
Grab a beverage, and hop below the story break so I can share a tale of a local candidate who truly embodies Walking Their Talk to me. Please do take a moment to remind yourselves what it is that everyone can do to help keep Top Comments thriving...

My city is going to have a drastically different city council come January, as almost all of our current members decided not to run for a variety of reasons, or chose to run for other offices (not one but FOUR were candidates for Mayor until our September preliminary, and the timing of that precluded pulling new papers for City Council). As a result, there are lots of new faces for both Ward as well as At-Large seats, and recently I got a chance to speak with one of these new faces. He isn’t in my Ward so I will not have the opportunity to vote for him, but I would if I could. He’s a staunch progressive and holds views solidly overlapping my own. He told me he got into the race late for two reasons, the first being the necessity of caring for a sick, elderly parent. The second reason was even better:
He waited because he believes the best way to encourage a diversity of representation in our goverment is to have people like him… a cis, white, male… sit down and let others run. So he waited, hoping a woman, person of color, or member of another underrepresented group stepped up to run. Only when it became apparent no one was going to step up and challenge the cis, white, male non-Democrat did he pull papers to run.
For years we’ve been saying listen to and trust the voices of women. Of people of color. Of transgender people. Of immigrants. As people fighting for these and all underrepresented folks, I’d say he walked the talk pretty damned well.
I’m glad you’re here, and I look forward to talking about walks, talks, and even the debate down in the comments. Before you do, take some time to peruse the trio of Top Comments, Mojo and Pictures that we bring you each and every night.

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. From belinda ridgewood:
Haven't even finished my coffee, and here's a Top Comment already! In Mark Sumner's diary about the testimony of Fiona Hill, angry marmot offered a splendid analogy to being thought unethical by John Bolton.
Oh look, another top comment! This one is in Crashing Vor's diary about Pencerefusing document requests. Clio2 provides an illustration.
From BYw:
The thread is pretty good, but this comment by pigpaste is gold. From Marissa Higgins’ Elizabeth Warren revealed she was sexually harassed by a former mentor—at his own funeral.
From Dixiecollie:
tdor66 started a thread culminating in this comment by emobile. From annieli’s "I am not part of whatever drug deal Rudy (sic) and Mulvaney are cooking up,".
