National Boss SpeakerTR Pelosi has let McConnell know that Democrats have no intention of putting Pence in the Oval Office for any significant time by prematurely impeaching the Orange Shitgibbon on Moscow Mitch’s schedule. She assured the nation that the Democrats would proceed with the impeachment inquiry under the existing rules that govern the procedure. Her remarks distill into a clearly understood (to those of us who are astute) message that the Democrats intend to proceed with all deliberate speed.
Note the emphasis on “deliberate.” Even to the less astute, one can foresee the advantage to the Democrats if the vote to impeach sometime in 2020 and to assure that the impeachment trial in the Senate during the period when candidates for president campaign to secure the nomination is the strategy. Pelosi knows this; she has no intention of obliging him. She holds all the cards.
Why do I say so? Because Sen. MM tipped his hand today, admitting there will be an impeachment trial in the Senate. And that means Sen. MM has heard from enough of his Republican colleagues that they no longer feel serfy fealty to Trump. Just listen to Sen. Romney’s damning floor speech delivered today. That is the public’s best indicator of what’s going on behind closed Republican doors. We may be confident of this assessment of the mood in the Senate from observing two indicators:
- The vote in the House yesterday in which only 60 Republicans have not yet determined that they don’t want to be the last rat who deserts. Be assured, Sen. MM’s political fingers have told him there is barely a loyal pulse to be found among the Republicans in the senate at present. Hence, yesterday’s lunch meeting with his party. He wants to get this mess off his deck before every Republican senator but maybe 6 jump off the Trump Train. The longer the impeachment process persists in the news cycle, the fewer are the Republicans who will remain loyal, much less get reelected.
- The second indicator is, quite simply, yesterday’s Gallup poll showing that 52% of those polled not only want impeachment, they also want Trump removed. There is every reason to believe that this number will do nothing but increase with time. We are all witnessing Trump impeaching himself. Now we are witnessing Trump’s staff and appointees helping impeach him, too. Therefore, the longer time taken before winding down any impeachment proceedings the greater will be the public clamoring for Trump’s head on a plate. And the greater will be the cleansing of Republicans from public office.
Okay, I lied. THIRDLY: After today’s announcement that Trump has brokered a temporary cease fire in order to “remove the Kurds,” from the Syrian land they’ve been living on while fighting ISIS for us, he is now, and forever after will be, known as Donald Trump, Surrender Monkey. It’s inconceivable that his new identity can be rehabilitated, no matter how many Lickspittle Republicans go on Fox News and lie. Just look at the hanging heads of the remaining military “loyalists” from yesterday’s historic photographic that earned Nancy Pelosi her title, National Boss SpeakerTR. There will be no support from that quarter for Trump or his political supporters. Ever.
If any sympathy for Republican politicians can be mustered from the furthermost depths of your heart, it is imperative that Republican senators be allowed to convict Trump well before the Republican convention. To hold their convention on the literal heels of his removal from office will, now that the tide of public opinion has reversed against them, assure the destruction of what we know as the GOP.
Imagine the scene should Trumpanistas present at the convention insist that their man be re-nominated in spite of his recent Senate conviction. Never Trumpers, moderates, former supporters who have defected, blue collar auto workers, blue collar farmers, and blue collar miners (by then) will be arrayed to oppose. Romney, in light of his speech today, apparently has made the calculation that he will be their man. The fight will produce an epic split, resulting in the strong possibility that the O(ld)-GOP will affirm Romney and the T(rump)-GOP will reaffirm Trump.
Thus split and in total disarray, come Election Day, the Democrats’ nominee will defeat both of them in a record-setting landslide. And that person’s coattails will assure a tsunami-sized sweep by Democrats in federal, state, and local elections.
National Boss SpeakerTR Pelosi is well aware of all the above. In my estimation, she has been counting on this scenario ever since she snarkily applauded Trump at his first State of the Union speech. I have every confidence that she has calculated right down to the second, bringing the Articles of Impeachment before the House for a vote on the eve of Trump’s next such appearance in 2020. Then, Sen. Schumer will see to it that the Democratic senators cooperate with Republicans with similar “all deliberate speed” in the Senate. That should carry the process into, at least, May. By then, I leave it to your imagination to project the number of Republicans still willing to stand by their man while trying to get themselves re-elected by an electorate that may be 55%+ percent for Trump’s removal.
Hah!
