We all know what is going on with Syria, so I’m not going to recap. I have two major quibbles with the reporting I’ve seen about it (and I’ve seen a lot).
1). Trump’s decision was not sudden, he’s been planning this since at least the first time he announced he’d be withdrawing US from Syria. The conversation with Erdogan was just the confirmation.
He knew exactly what would happen, because Vlad let him know what he wanted.
2). Reporting is stopping one step short. Sure, it’s being mentioned that Turkey is a NATO ally. Sure, it’s being mentioned that Vlad is getting everything he wants.
Here’s why I think the Syria situation is so much more terrifyingly awful than how it is being reported.
Vlad’s op in the UK gave us the Brexit vote. Britain is in chaos, and there is gaping instability and uncertainty in the economic and political alliance that has kept Europe free from war for 70 years.
Now, Vlad’s Syria op, with Recip as the middleman, is causing another, and perhaps more dangerous rift in the North Atlantic. Europe and it’s Turkish NATO ‘ally’ are now at military odds.
So, we have uncertainty, political chaos and military confrontation among allies, with Vlad’s puppet in full throttle as a co-conspirator.
This is much worse than just paving the way to Assad’s consolidation of Syria after 8 years of war, or Turkey’s aggression against the Kurds, or Russia’s bootprint on the neck of the Middle East.
It is about the destabilization and dismantling of Western democracy.
