In 1988, the Upper Swan Valley Historical Society was established in Condon, Montana. The goal was to discover, collect, preserve, and interpret materials relating to Montana’s Swan River Valley. Today the Swan Valley Historical Society has displays relating to the area history. The museum grounds include a number of historic buildings, including the Swan River Tavern.
In 1947, Louie and Marian “Mame” Holmes Krause opened the Swan River Tavern in a log building. In the 1950s, the tavern moved across the highway and renamed Liquid Louie’s. The log building was sold and used as a home. In 2007, the log building was donated to the Swan Valley Museum and moved to the museum grounds.
