Last night in Top Comments, a few Kossacks geeked out over Rod Carew’s career statistics.
I did find a couple of other definitions of”geeked out” but I didn’t find them to be all that useful...I’ll explain why but first…
Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! Well, there was the druggie definition of geeked out...and this definition...which comes close to the definition I eventually chose to use but for one thing
not realizing that most people listening will fail to understand it
I think that, in the example from last night, batting averages are relatively easy to understand...another example.
I know that my Mom and aunt can get together and discuss the intricacies of soap opera plots dating back at least to th early 1970 (and yes, even before the VCR, Mom would have her trusty “TV/Radio” at work to listen to her “stories.”
I mean, I understood the intricacies of the plot and characters if I sat long enough and listened to them talk (which I did, eventually).
But for the longest time...I really wasn’t interested.
I mean, sure, you can geek out over things that require an alternative nomenclature and that really would be hard to explain...but geeking out, at least to my mind, can be over something relatively simple but...intricate.
So...yes, I can still get my geek out on over sports statistics and pointspreads, and the like.
And depending on the comic series and the time that it was published, I can geek out on comic books.
Heck, this political blog that some of us affectionately call The Great Orange Satan. most of us here geek out over Democratic politics...so that’s one “geek out” that all of us have.
I think.
