Just a brief diary as the Jewish holiday of Shemini Atzeret starts in less than two hours.
The Baltimore Sun has the story:

I remember D’Alesandro’s election. His namesake father had also been mayor, and “Young Tommy” was popular with basically every ethnic group in the city, winning a landslide election in 1967. But during his term, the city burned after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., strikes plagued basic services, blockbusters capitalized on racial fears, and he was been unable to address many of the problems the city had. He retired after one term and rarely made public appearances or gave interviews after that. He is now best known as Nancy Pelosi’s older brother.
