In 1940, Freightways Manufacturing Company, Inc. was formed by Consolidated Freightways and five other freight carriers. In 1942 it became the Freightliner Corporation. In 1951, Freightliner entered into an agreement with White Motor Corporation to sell Freightliners through its dealership network.
In 1981, Mercedes-Benz AG of Germany purchased Freightliner Corporation from Consolidated Freightways, Inc. In 2008, Freightliner became Daimler Trucks North America.
The Pacific Northwest Truck Museum in Brooks, Oregon, is dedicated to the preservation of trucking history. Founded in 1989, the Museum preserves and displays all aspects of trucking history, including trucks and trucking artifacts. Over 75 trucks are on display. Shown below are some of the Freightliner trucks which are on display.
