I’ve been posting a few of my old union-related cartoons here lately. In honor of Groucho Marx’s birthday, (okay, his birthday was yesterday; sorry, Julius), here is one I did referencing a joke from one of the Marx Bros. movies.
There’s a scene in The Cocoanuts, set in a Florida hotel during the 1920’s real estate boom, where the hotel’s bellboys confront the manager, Groucho. They haven’t been paid in weeks and they want their wages now. "Do you want to be wage slaves forever?” Groucho replies; “What makes wage slaves? Wages! Be free my friends! "
