Moscow Mitch McConnell has been doing his very best to remain in his shell, taking full advantage of this week's recess to avoid saying anything out loud about impeachment or Ukraine or Donald Trump. So Trump is saying it for him.
Trump told reporters Thursday that he has talked to McConnell about that July 25 call in which he attempted to strong-arm Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky into interfering in the 2020 election by digging up dirt on Joe Biden, and that McConnell told him it was "the most innocent phone call" that he's read. So there's that. That comports with reporting from last week that McConnell urged Trump to release the transcript. McConnell did poo-poo the call transcript last week, calling it "laughable," and said that it did not come "anywhere close to an impeachable offense." He hasn't commented on the whistleblower complaint, however.
As for this assertion from Trump, "McConnell’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment," McClatchy reports. Go figure.
And as of yet McConnell hasn't commented on Trump's nationally televised confession to the Ukraine quid pro quo demands and further impeachable offense of inviting China to interfere in the 2020 election. Enterprising Kentucky reporters need to be camping on his doorstep right now, ready to confront him with those issues.
