The chairs of the House Intelligence, Foreign Affairs, and Oversight and Reform committees have requested documents from Vice President Mike Pence regarding his part in the Ukraine extortion.
"The Committees are investigating the extent to which President Trump jeopardized national security by pressing Ukraine to interfere with our 2020 election and by withholding security assistance provided by Congress . . . as well as any efforts to cover up these matter," Chairmen Adam Schiff, Eliot Engel, and Elijah Cummings write. "Recently, public reports have raised questions about any role you might have played in conveying or reinforcing the President's stark message to the Ukrainian President."
They are looking for any documents of any communications Pence has from any officials regarding this effort. They turn the screw just a little bit, pointing out that in remarks Thursday, Pence "appeared to condone President Trump's efforts to press foreign powers to target the President's political opponents with baseless conspiracy theories." They write "your failure or refusal to comply with the request, including at the directing or behest of the President or the White House, shall constitute evidence of obstruction of the House's impeachment inquiry and may be used as an adverse interference against you and the President."
Pence just put himself smack dab in the middle of a very messy situation.
