The Democratic National Committee is starting now to ensure a unified effort to defeat Donald Trump in November 2020. The effort includes the Democratic Unity Fund, for which multiple candidates and former President Barack Obama are raising money, but it goes beyond funding the eventual nominee.
- Campaigns will be asked to name unity ambassadors, “a senior member of each campaign who will remain the point of contact between their candidate’s campaign and supporters and the nominee’s campaign, helping ensure a strong transition between the primary and general election.”
- Candidates will be asked to commit to campaign for the nominee.
- The DNC is encouraging state parties to be inclusive and fair, including urging state party chairs and vice chairs to remain neutral.
- As the many, many primary campaigns get winnowed down to one nominee campaign, the DNC will maintain a resume bank to ensure that the campaign has the strongest possible staff available. The DNC will also hold staff trainings.
- A social media unity campaign starts November 3.
Will it work? Donald Trump should be the strongest incentive for all Democrats to stick together. But it’s good to get ahead of the game, too.
