If you can avert your eyes from the drama in the US House and are looking for more cause to get energized, look at what’s happening down south. I won’t dwell on this because quaoar has recently diaried on it, but check this new poll out — Trump LOSES IN GEORGIA head to head against all the majors: Biden (+8), Sanders (+4), Warren (+3), Buttegieg (+3) and Harris (+1)! There’s another poll out yesterday too, showing that 54% of Georgians approve of the imPEACHment inquiry, and 47% already support removal! Ladies and gentlemen — Georgia is most definitely a battleground! And we are pumped and ready to fight for the Peach State!
The 2019 election results in Virginia and Kentucky have a very strong message for us here in Georgia - if we recommit and redouble our efforts now, we can expand the wave of blue even deeper into this battleground state.
Suburban voters have always been a key voting block, especially in the hyper-gerrymandered districts of the red states. Now the gerrymanders may prove to be the Republicans’ undoing, where they have concentrated thousands of soccer moms and middle class families whose main worries are about raising their kids to be healthy and good people. Those goals are inconsistent with an anti-science Republican agenda centered around xenophobia, hatred, and greed.
The frontline is right here in Georgia, and we have to act now to keep the Republicans on the defensive. We have to build on Lucy McBath’s astounding 2018 victory in GA’s 6th, and we have to take the offensive and flip GA’s 7th from red to blue. Fighting on offense every day for these congressional seats will expand our majority in Congress, and lay the groundwork for two US Senate seat battles in Georgia this year.
In 2018, Carolyn Bourdeaux came within about 400 votes of ejecting longtime Congressman Rob Woodall from a seat that has been Republican for a generation. We all know about the voter suppression issues in Georgia that likely played a role, including throwing thousands of voters off the roles, and a recent report showed that 5,900 people in GA’s 7th registered to vote in the 29 days before the election, but were denied the right to vote because they didn’t make the 30 day deadline. That’s 14 times the margin of the election, prevented from voting by a ridiculously early deadline.
CAROLYN BOURDEAUX nearly won GA’s 7th in 2018 — let’s help her finish the job in 2020!
Woodall sees the writing on the wall, and he is stepping down - making GA’s 7th an open seat and immediately making it one of the most hotly contested in 2020. Carolyn is smart, tough, and proved she has what it takes to run a competitive campaign. When the vote was tight last year, she fought hard against Georgia’s voter suppression that threw out thousands of ballots and likely cost her the election. She has the support of Stacey Abrams, John Lewis, Andrew Young, Roy Barnes, John Ossoff, and many others. There is a primary of course, with lots of great dems joining the race, but Carolyn has the experience to take this fight to the Republicans and win this seat. Last month she reported she raised $280,000, with $700,000 on hand, which sounds like a lot — until you realize Rob Woodall spent $1.5 million fighting off Carolyn last year, and this race is much higher on the national attention list this year!
