I extremely tired tonight, and I have an early day tomorrow. I have no keen or unique insights into today’s impeachment hearing. I can barely put a sentence together. So I’m just going to post some photos.
In October, I took two separate trips to Ithaca, New York. I went to graduate school at Cornell, and a part of my heart still lives there. On one of my trips, I visited Taughannock State Park, home to Taughannock Falls, the second highest waterfall east of the Mississippi. (Yes, they’re higher than Niagara Falls—by 33 feet—though a whole lot more water goes through Niagara.) So here are my photos of the falls and the gorge:
On my second trip, hubby and I spent some time wandering around the Cornell University campus. We stopped by Willard Straight Hall, which is essentially the student union, more or less. It’s a neo-gothic structure date back to about 1920. (Willard Straight was an alumnus who was killed in World War I.) I walked by and through Willard Straight Hall thousands of times in the 1980s, but it took hubby’s perspective to point out details that I had not previously noticed.
Above the main entrance, there is an array of shields with images displaying the various disciplines of study at the university. We were able only to identify some of them.
But what caught hubby’s eye were the two bear above the shields on either side. The one on the left is holding a book:
The one on the right is holding a football:
So that’s what you did at Cornell in the 1920s. You read a book and then you played football, apparently. Nowadays, with the pathetic state of Ivy League football, I suspect priorities have shifted, perhaps a little more emphatically toward the book-holding bear. On the other hand, were the bears a little more modern, there might be one checking its smart phone.
That’s all the content I can provide for today. Tops are below the fold, but first, a word from our sponsor:
