Democratic Rep. Jim Himes of Connecticut has been very clear about his opinion of the evidence he has seen in closed-door hearings of the impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump. On Friday, he made sure to ask former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch a set of questions that highlighted the reasoning behind Trump’s dismissal of a well-regarded ambassador like Yovanovitch.
REP. JIM HIMES: Ambassador, if you had remained ambassador to Ukraine, would you have recommended to the president of the United States that he ask the new Ukrainian president to investigate, and I am quoting from the transcript here, “CrowdStrike or the server”?
AMBASSADOR MARIE YOVANOVITCH: I would repeat once again that the U.S. intelligence community has concluded it was the Russians.
Yes. There’s no there there. But the last two questions, as simple as they are, give away Trump’s whole two-dimensional chess mind.
REP. HIMES: Ambassador, if you had remained as ambassador and not been dismissed, would you have supported a three-month delay in congressionally mandated military aid to Ukraine?
YOVANOVITCH: No.
REP. HIMES: If you had remained, would you have recommended to the president that he ask a new president of Ukraine to find out about Biden's son?
YOVANOVITCH: No.
REP. HIMES: I have no questions. I yield back the balance of my time.
And that’s a wrap.
