Happy Friday! Yep, fall is here, figuratively and literally. The temps have been running in the high 60’s low 70’s during the day, and into the 40’s and 50’s at night, so fall temps for this part of Florida. We’ve had a couple of colder days when it didn’t get out of the 50’s and fell into the 30’s over night.
Also… FlSNDad fell again today. No injuries, other than a sore hip (which is what gave out on him in the first place, so it may not be sore from the fall or at least not just from the fall).
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

It was closer to a lowering to the floor than a full fall, because he called for help, but his feet were behind him to one side and he was half leaning the other way on the door jam with one hand on the walker, and I couldn’t get him upright without risking turning his ankle. Then it took about a half an hour to get him into a position to actually lift him back up with Bit’s help. At least he only broke one of the four rules of falling.
The Rules of Falling are as follows…
1. No Falling.
2. No hurting yourself if you fall.
3. No taking other people with you.
4. No breaking inanimate objects.
These were established years ago, and are part of the fun of living in the house with people with multiple disabilities lol. But having the rules gives us all a means of quickly assessing how bad a fall is and how much help is needed. When someone falls we ask how many rules they broke, if they say 1, then we just help them get up as needed and it’s done. If it’s 2 or 4 then we do further assessments to see if we need professional help (like an ambulance). If it’s 3, we know to check on more people and it continues from there. Today was only a 1 rule broken fall. So it could have been a lot worse. We have had 4 broken rule falls in the past, they are a lot more intense.
And of course while he’s lying on the floor catching his breath and working out how best to get up on his knees so we can get him on his feet his mom called. I answered the phone and said “Sorry, he can’t come to the phone right now, he’s on the floor.” She could hear Bit laughing in the background. and the humor in my voice, so she didn’t panic at least. And he called her back once he was at his desk quite a bit later. He’s been disabled since birth, so she’s seen a lot more falls over the years than I have.
This has nothing to do with the rules of falling, and wouldn’t work well for us but… it’s amusing.
So it’s been an interesting day. Friday Draco has PT at 9 am so we’ll get a late start on groceries, we’ll wait until he’s home so we’re not leaving my other half here by himself, in case we have a repeat of today. Means a later start for Bit and I but we’ll be ok.
I need to get a shower at some point, today or tomorrow, we’ll see how I’m feeling in an hour or so. Right now I need to recover from the lifting of the husband.
Letting the bodies hit the floor is also not optimal. Warning there is some strobing during this video. I listen to it, i don’t watch it.
