Remember, remember,
The fourth of November,
Trump climate treason and plot.
I see no reason
Why Trump climate treason
Ever should be forgot.
Just before Guy Fawkes Day, November 5, 2019, the Trump Maladministration took action to try to blow up the Paris Climate Accords. This was the first day when the Accords let them start a one year process of withdrawal.
So now what? What is the scope of the disaster? What can we do, personally, locally, nationally, globally? What are we doing? A lot, it turns out. Those who have been acting, in government, business, and civil society, see no reason to stop working, and indeed are taking this as an incentive to double down on renewable energy, electric vehicles, tree planting, sustainable agriculture, decarbonizing industry, greening buildings, and all the rest.
NYT: Trump Serves Notice to Quit Paris Climate Agreement
The Trump administration formally notified the United Nations on Monday that it would withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement on climate change, leaving global climate diplomats to plot a way forward without the cooperation of the world’s largest economy.
The action, which came on the first day possible under the accord’s complex rules on withdrawal, begins a yearlong countdown to the United States exit and a concerted effort to preserve the Paris Agreement, under which nearly 200 nations have pledged to cut greenhouse emissions and to help poor countries cope with the worst effects of an already warming planet.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the notification on Twitter and issued a statement saying the accord would impose intolerable burdens on the American economy.
Lies and Delusions
So many lies, so many delusions.
- Trump has been calling Global Warming a Chinese hoax for years. That includes the causes of Global Warming, the damage caused by Global Warming, and the money-and-life-saving measures to combat Global Warming.
- He announced his intention to quit the Paris Accords during his campaign, and again early in his Presidency, claiming that they are meant to inflict major damage on the US economy, among other vicious nonsense.
- He has taken hundreds of actions to damage the environment, but at the same time brags about reducing emissions and, in effect, Making the Environment Great Again.
His base loves this destructive farrago of nonsense. I'm not going to quote any of their hate-filled maunderings here. These self-congratulating and completely hypocritical American Conservation Coalition Dog Whistles are bad enough.

Petitions were launched across states in order to persuade state governors to join the Paris Agreement or have Trump reverse the planned withdrawal, which included a "ParisMyState" and a MoveOn petition that has received over 535,000 signatures.
Multiple environmental groups, such as the Sierra Club and Natural Resources Defense Council, condemned Trump's decision.[55][56] American environmentalist and writer Bill McKibben, the founder of the climate change action group 350.org, called the move "a stupid and reckless decision—our nation's dumbest act since launching the war in Iraq." McKibben wrote that Trump's decision to withdraw amounted "to a thorough repudiation of two of the civilizing forces on our planet: diplomacy and science." He called upon U.S. states and cities to "double down" on commitments to renewable energy.
We can expect much more of this in the current go-round.
OK, So What are the Rest of Us Doing?
Showing our true powers, of course. What any superheros do when confronted with an even higher level of malignant evil.
Truth. Justice. The American Way. Those are just some of our true powers.
NYT again.
In the United States, environmentalists are pressing states, cities and businesses to cut emissions and move to renewable energy sources like solar and wind power. Hundreds of local governments and businesses have made emissions pledges under a movement called We Are Still In, which hopes to show the world that Americans are behind the Paris Agreement even if the administration is not.
Analysts cautioned that even if the United States elects a Democrat in 2020, re-entry will not necessarily go smoothly. The Paris Agreement is the second global climate change pact that the United States joined under a Democrat and abandoned under a Republican. George W. Bush withdrew the United States from the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.
Jonathan Pershing, who served during the Obama administration as the State Department’s special envoy for climate change, said a Democrat rejoining the Paris Agreement would likely be expected to deliver a specific suite of policies showing how the United States intended to move away from fossil fuels. Even then, he said, other countries would be rightly wary that the pendulum of support for climate action could swing back in another election cycle. The United States will have to live with that lingering mistrust, Mr. Pershing said.
You can join whichever activist groups you find appropriate. Consider working with those that will be active at the upcoming COP25 climate conference. You can also talk to local officials without having to join a group. Cities have started to buy electric school buses and electric police cars and so on, and to put solar panels on government and school rooftops, and so on, and change building codes to require better (more environmentally friendly and at the same time money-saving) insulation and appliances, especially for heating and cooling.
25 Republicans And 25 Democrats Now Belong To The Climate Solutions Caucus
This one is apparently for real, up to a point.
Earlier this month, the caucus made its presence known during a vote on the Defense authorization bill. Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) introduced an amendment to the bill to strike all climate change language, including a requirement for the military to assess the national security risks of climate change. Nearly all the Republicans on the caucus voted against Perry’s amendment. They were joined by 24 other Republicans, and the amendment was easily defeated.
There is a similar caucus in the Senate, with Sen. Lindsey Graham at least saying
I believe in Climate Change.
even if not
Global Warming is real.

Trump's Withdrawal From Paris Agreement Will Leave U.S. 'Edged Out' by Countries Like Russia and China, Macron Says
French President Emmanuel Macron has implicitly condemned President Donald Trump's withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement, describing such a move as "deplorable"—but vowed it would not derail the initiative.
Macron was in Beijing Wednesday for meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, during which both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the Paris agreement, which seeks to limit global warming to "well below" 2 C above pre-industrial levels.

AIA denounces Trump's withdrawal from the Paris Agreement
The American Institute of Architects has called for Donald Trump to reverse his "shortsighted decision" to withdraw the US from the Paris Agreement amid the global climate crisis.
AIA president William Bates issued a statement on Tuesday 5 November, the day after the US president notified the United Nations of America's withdrawal.
"The AIA deplores the administration's shortsighted decision," said Bates.
"The economic impact to the United States as a participant in the Paris Agreement is a fraction of the toll we will pay if we do not make climate action a top priority as a nation," he added.
Greening buildings is a major segment of the Green New Deal, and of all other national plans to attack the causes of Global Warming.
