O’hai
Backstory: Since the death of my father several years ago after about 15 years of me being his primary caregiver, I have had an ongoing adventure to reboot my life in spite of a sequence of obstacles such as health issues, family obstructions, and financial difficulties. After a job search where I discovered having twelve college degrees did not result in many job offers, I stumbled upon being a substitute teacher, which I turned out to be very good at. I then applied and was accepted into a teaching credential program at California State University (CSU) Monterey Bay (CSUMB). As part of that program, I have been seeking a teaching internship program as part of my teaching credential and that process is ongoing.

The teaching credential continues. This semester I have been focusing on special education, although that is not the ultimate focus of my credentials. I have found that special education issues have a wide overlap with teaching regular students.
I have had several interviews, but thus far I have heard nothing. Generally, the way getting hired as a teacher works is like most modern jobs, if I am selected I will be notified and if I am not selected I have to take extended silence as my signal that someone else has been selected.
In the meantime, I have been continuing to do substitute teaching. In keeping with my credential coursework, I have been preferentially been taking assignments in special education, including several long-term assignments in special education classes. It has been an eye-opening experience and it will help me when I get my own classroom.
Who is considered special education has changed over the years. When I was in school, many students who now would be in special education would be simply considered to be problem children and put aside. In fact, now I recognize behaviors in some adults that cause me to question if they might have been undiagnosed special education when they were themselves in school. This is not an insult, because the reasons many people have learning disabilities have nothing to do with their actions or choices.
I could say a lot more, but for now, I will leave this here. I will post more non-needs-request diaries with more about my teaching credential and other life events soon.
NOW HERE IS A VIDEO UPDATE FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT:

Now for the needs requests:
$800 initial request
JUSTIFICATION: Holiday breaks are essentially unpaid unemployment for me as a substitute teacher. This is what I need for my November shortfall for living expenses, power/heat, and I have a car registration coming due soon. It has been rather cold here in Salinas and I’ve had to use the gas heating almost every night and even during the days when I am home on weekends. In past years I tried to get by without using the heat to save money, but the constant respratory issues made that counter productive.
I will amend this in the future if/when the following factors come in.
As I can only post once each 30 days, I will make updates here and in the comments sections of various needs-friendly communities.
TUITION: I MAY have need of more for spring semester tuition if I can get an internship in a classroom, which necessary for me to be able to enroll in future teaching credential classes. If I do not get an internship, I will be taking the spring semester off and continue in Fall semester. If I do get an internship,I will amend this request to include tuition.
WINTER BREAK: December and January are the happy holiday season if you don’t take into account the almost month long period of unemployment for substitute teacher. I will be posting in Januart about my needs, which will also include whatever needs I may not meet for November. If I meet the November needs, please feel free to continue contributions towards December/January needs. I thank all of you who have helped me along the way. I feel like this will never end, but in truth, an end is in sight, even if it sometimes I step back from time to time. Once I’ve gotten my teaching credential, my needs will be met from my teaching salary and I will also be in a postion to give back to others in need.

Thank you for your support!
Note: I MAY need to amend this
for tuition costs if I get an internship. Also, I may have to take a test called the RICA for my teaching credential which costs $200 to take.

I HAVE TENTATIVE “Woot” here.
Tentative because I don’t yet know if I will need to raise Tuition for spring semester teaching credential classes. I should know in a few days to weeks.
I am going to have some very important meetings with the Teaching Credential bigwigs at CSUMB this upcoming week, and I should know more then.
I am also researching my options to go the one-year unpaid-student-teacher route versus a two-year-paid intern route. I’d prefer the former because it is faster, but it would require more scholarship fundraising because I would not have a paying job while going through the program. I will be posting more about the one-year-student-teacher versus two-year-intern-teacher when I post my January needs diary.
Considering the Daily Kos ban on doing more than one fundraiser per month, I’m not declaring this fundraiser complete until I know if I will need to ask for more, and I will amend this diary then.
I am also going to need at least $1200 in January for the December winter break unemployment, so if anyone wants to and can get a step ahead, I would be grateful.
In the meantime, thanks! I do not think I would be on track to becoming a teacher without your help and support.

HOUSTON WE HAVE A
¡¡¡WOOT!!!
I will not be taking any Teaching Credential classes during Spring Semester 2020. I will be spending that time continuing to substitute teach while I work on either getting a two year paid teaching internship or figure out how to raise enough to do the one-year unpaid student teacher route. I will be posting more information about these topics soon.
I will be having a need in January because of the weeks of unpaid break time in December, and another need because of the continued unpaid break in January. I’ll be posting another needs diary in January. I currently estimate the near future needs will be $1200 in January and $600 in February.
Meanwhile, I am a couple of weeks away from being out of dry cat and dog food. :-D
