It isn’t that I am not interested, I scan news from multiple sources each and every day. On the other hand, every time I check my old email, it is filled with requests for money from organizations I have supported, organizations I have never supported, party members running for office I have never heard of, and the constant demand for action of some sort or another. It is simple, Overwhelming!
Yes, I will vote, as I have voted each and every election. Yes, I will vote in every election, from the most local, to the most national. I consider it my civic duty.
Yes, I wish I could fund every candidate, from the bottom to the top; but I can’t; and this year I cannot even fund from the bottom.
I have been watching the Presidential primary candidates with a lot of interest. I was a Bernie supporter in 2016, voted reluctantly for Hillary in the national; but this year, I just can’t decide. Being inundated with email doesn’t help. In fact, I set up a new email account for my personal “stuff”, because I cannot even stand to check my email anymore. It feels like “junk” “spam”, or whatever you want to call it.
For local elections, I prefer to meet the candidates running; but the opportunities for doing so have become more limited rather than greater. Stop sending me email, stop sending me real mail. Find someway to appear locally, and invite me to your personal appearance. Last local election, I received a flyer just about every day from a local candidate running for State congress. He spent a lot of money, but there was no opportunity to meet him, no opportunity to see him debate.
My local Democratic Party “club”, is not very inviting either. On and off for years I have attended. Attendance is light, it is always the same people, and the favored candidates, who can’t do more than shake your hand and run out of the door headed for their next event. It doesn’t offer much of an opportunity for really getting to know someone, and this is for “local politics”.
As it relates toward our national politics, and the candidate on the Dem side who eventually wins the nomination, I will vote for that candidate, no matter what. Yes, I know it matters!
