You can read the story all over the web but the basic facts are laid out on the Fox News website. The story will be making the news all week. As the day progresses who knows what else Trump will do to undermine our standing in NATO and tarnish our image among our other allies.
No doubt Trump supporters probably think that everything he did to put a wedge between NATO allies and the United States was laudable. They probably think his breaking the unwritten but rarely if ever broken rule that American politicians leave politics at home when they travel overseas doesn't apply to someone who has crowned himself king.
Subjecting NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to the humiliation of sitting next to him during what was supposed to be a photo opportunity while he ranted on for what he made into an unplanned news conference all about him for 50 minutes, again, a king does what a king want to do. Decorum and convention be damned, a king makes his own rules.
On Friday, Boris Johnson said in a radio interview “What we don’t do traditionally as loving allies and friends, what we don’t do traditionally, is get involved in each other’s election campaigns.” If this is love, then John and Lorena Bobbitt had a model loving marriage.
What Boris Johnson or anyone else says is no big deal to King Trump. He’s still due to get a reception at Buckingham Palace with Queen Elizabeth II.
It is ironic to have a real Queen with no power, and a fake king with incredible power putting on a show in the country we fought a bloody revolution to free ourselves from as enemies and then fought two world wars with as allies to keep the world free from tyranny.
If the Brits want to keep their show biz monarchy that is up to them. If Americans want a monarchy it is up to about 10 senators. And we call ourselves a democracy.
Now it’s showtime:
