Today, Daily Kos announced key findings from a nationwide survey of Americans commissioned through Civiqs. The poll of 1449 adults was conducted online from Feb. 12-15 and reveals broad disapproval of the new GOP-backed tax law (48-30 percent disapprove/approve), favorable opinions towards a wealth tax on those with over $50 million net worth (50-39 percent favor/oppose), and positive sentiment towards key Green New Deal proposals (48-42 percent favor/oppose). Other issues surveyed include the investigation into Russian efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election, vaccinations, climate change, and the general state of U.S. politics.
“Daily Kos is commissioning monthly polls through Civiqs to gauge public sentiment towards key issues, leaders, and more,” said Carolyn Fiddler, communications director for Daily Kos. “The best antidote to hot takes about current events is hard data, and Civiqs will help us uncover a new set of findings each month. February’s research reveals that even a solid majority of Republicans—59 percent of respondents, versus 68 percent of everyone surveyed—believe that current political events in the U.S. are unusually scandalous, so tracking Americans’ views during the prevailing tumult will help provide important insight into the opinions of those outside of the pundit bubble.”
“Civiqs is pleased to partner with Daily Kos to conduct these monthly surveys” said Civiqs director and chief scientist Drew Linzer. “These snapshots of public sentiment will provide valuable context to our ongoing tracking polls, which provide continuously updated data on how Americans feel about various issues and view key political leaders.”
