There are more of us than there are of them.
But they vote with way more consistency.
Therefore, we sometimes lose races that we should win easily.
Our candidates are different from each other, which is fitting, given the traditional “big tent” mentality of the Democratic party. This isn’t a bad thing from a big-picture standpoint; different ideas often serve to move the platform into more progressive territory (see AOC or Bernie, and others). However, there is one objective in 2020: defeat Trump. For me, there is no purity test that is more important than beating the orange racist currently inhabiting our White House. Any candidate who doesn’t wholeheartedly get behind the eventual Democratic nominee will never have my support or money ever again, and I mean it.
My idea is this, and I hope the people-driven power of Daily Kos can make it a reality: All the declared candidates should coordinate efforts to increase Democratic voting without regard to whether it helps their own particular campaigns. As any new candidates enter the race (as we know they will), they should be asked by the DNC (or a representative council of all the campaigns) and strenuously encouraged to do the same. Each campaign should devote a certain percentage or set amount of cash to the effort, and the effort should be spearheaded by a reliable, independent (of the campaigns, that is) individual or committee to make it happen.
Although the incentive for doing this should be the defeat of Donald Trump, perhaps there should be some quid pro quo for participation in this joint venture. Although I’m hesitant to offer anything to anybody who doesn’t take part, these are politicians we are talking about. However, we, as their constituents and potential voters, should exert enough pressure on them, so that they are compelled to follow our will on this one (what a funny concept!).
If we vote, folks, we can’t lose, unless they cheat us like they did to Stacy Abrams in Georgia or Dan McCready in North Carolina. Let’s throw enough votes at them that they can’t do anything to stop us.
