Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington state ripped into acting attorney general Matthew Whitaker during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Friday, excoriating the administration for failing to properly track families it ripped apart at the border under its barbaric “zero tolerance” policy.
“Do you know what kind of damage has been done to children and families across this country, children who will never get to see their parents again?” Jayapal said. “Do you understand the magnitude of that?”
Jayapal held her hand up in disbelief as Whitaker said nothing at first. When he tried condescendingly say that he knew Jayapal’s “passion for this issue,” she shut him down by saying, “This is about more than my passion. This is about the children’s future, Mr. Whitaker.”
